A Grateful Heart

Grateful for health.

Over the last month I have had all my scans and blood tests to make sure that I am in full health with regards to my breast cancer which I faced 9 years ago. Having had cancer keeps me humble as I know that it is something that one has to be on the look out for ever after. Each year as I have my tests done I experience a relieved and grateful heart when I am told that all is still fine. It underlines the fact that I want to keep spreading light and kindness to others around me.

The way I enjoy spreading light.

I believe we are all given strengths and talents that we can enjoy for ourselves as well as to share with others around us. I enjoy connection through friendships, and I also enjoy communicating through writing and art. I value encouragement and wisdom as much as I value the arts. Part of my makeup is to withdraw from time to time to a place that is quiet and calm. I think, read, reflect and express my personal life here and out of this space I find ideas and feelings that I want to share. I leave you with one of my favorite blessings…

An Old Irish Blessing

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
May the blessing of light be on you,
light without and light within.
May the blessed sunshine shine on you and
warm your heart till it glows like a great peat fire,
so that the stranger may come and
warm himself at it,
and also a friend.

I could write more about the impact of cancer on one’s life but since it has been my wife who has had to deal with it I cannot write it here, so openly (may I write via your contact page?) This blog today is uplifting and shows us the grace that you have gained from your loss. Bless you and thank you for the Old Irish Blessing which I’ve not read before 💐💐💐🙋‍♂️

  11. An inspiring read — and best of luck for the future! My mother also had cancer forty-two years ago and has never had any problem since.
    And here’s another Irish blessing for you:_
    “May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

  12. Dear Morag, I did not know this about you. I thank God for your healing. A grateful heart opens the gates of more blessings! You are in the palm of His hand, He loves you with an everlasting love. God has promised to never leave us nor forsake us! Stay close to Him, the closer we stay, the more He can bless us. May the peace of God guard your heart from all fear!

  13. Thank you for sharing. I will be reading your journey. My friend’s also on the same journey. Received her “clear” a few months ago. Was a tough journey as she has one of the rare types of breast cancer.
    Hope the good news keeps following you.

    • Thank you so much. Mine was also a rare type and difficult to find which is why I had the double mastectomy. I thought to myself that I would rather choose life than keep one breast and then find out too late second time round. I just decided I didn’t want a second round. But it was a hard choice. Take care.

  14. Wishing many Blessings and grace your way. Thank you for your boldness in your journey and for the encouraging post. I had an experience with cancer with my mum for a few years but unfortunately our battle wasn’t won and we lost her painfully. Such posts create awareness on the same. Many Blessings
