My Studio Friday: Crafting with Ellie

Welcome to My Studio Friday – my little end-of-the-week ritual where I give myself permission to devote the day to making something with my hands. I invite you to share a peek into my creative space. The post is close to my heart because I spent last Friday crafting with my daughter, Ellie.

We had previously found some ideas, while watching some craft tutorials, and we were excited. We spent time crafting, chatting, and generally making a happy mess together. It is wonderful being together using ‘rubbish’ which we recycled into decorations with orange peel, wire, toilet rolls, glue, and paints, while having good conversation. As we experimented and expressed ourselves in our individual ways we were wrapped in companionship.

I’ve put together a short video of our day, and I hope you experience the feelings we had and it brings a smile or inspires you to take time for your own creativity, no matter which day you choose to do it.

This is not a tutorial but we used orange peel, wire and wire cutters for the first craft; the second we used toilet rolls, glue gun and paints; and the third was card making with embellishes.

      • Oh yes, we used to do that in South Africa, we had a wood burner. We get a fruit called naartjie… I think it’s a bit like an easy peeler or satsuma… I’m not sure but naartjie (pronounced narr-chie) is South African…is so easy to peel. We would save all the peels and use them to help start the fire. Makes a nice crackle.

  9. When I was growing up, my mother and I made fancy Christmas cookies, candles, and other Christmas decorations. I remember my father complaining that bits of glitter remained long after the holidays were over. Thank you for reminding me of those pleasant memories, Morag! 💕😊💕
