Summary of November

November was a little different for me: to recap you might recall that I joined a month of writing (called nanawrimo). I found it to be most edifying and uplifting in several ways.

  • Firstly it inspired me to reflect back on the stories I had written in the past 30 years, to celebrate what I have done and appreciate my efforts. It was like taking stock. In this regard I have three Pre-school level stories, and one collection of short stories about cats. I am happy to just acknowledge my children’s stories but I would like to try illustrating them just for fun and completing the cat stories as I am one story short still.
  • Secondly I was able to review the plot, deepen my protagonist’s character and finish a first draft of my novel which I had started nine years ago. This was the main focus of the month. I feel very happy with my achievements and sustained efforts; especially considering I have been suffering from asthma and lung infection the whole time. It has helped me feel that it is still possible to accomplish the finishing of the novel. I am excited about this possibility.
  • I was provided valuable feedback in the form of data that helped me analyze my work flow and output over the period of time. It gives me an objective view of my writing life. The data collected covered how I felt at the time of writing, when and where I wrote, and for how long per day; for example, the data collected from me shows that I work best in the afternoons and evenings. I found the feedback enlightening about my writing habits and I have greater understanding of myself as a writer. It also showed a graph of my output over time which I found enlightening as it shows me that my creative flow is executed in bursts of energy with short breaks. It helps me embrace and accept my process and production of the project.

I found it to be a very rewarding and satisfying month. I now feel inspired to try working on some of the illustrations for the novel, more as a way of developing some of the visual images, which could help me detail the descriptions even more. I am quite excited to do drawings this next month.

I really enjoyed having a specific intention for the month which gave me more freedom to focus on my writing. It felt like I had taken myself seriously enough to commit to the month. It has also shown me that I could easily continue on these projects as I have set up some good routines and habits through this process.

Light in the dark months (for those of us in the Northern hemisphere) really is a time for reaching out because there are many who feel the darkness in their loneliness at this time. Wishing you a wonderful month of Light and Love this December.

Take care,
– Morag Noffke

  1. Hope you’re feeling better! It can be difficult to have creative spurts when you’re not 100%. Glad you were able to accomplish a lot at NaNoWriMo, I’ve been thinking of joining in so it is so nice to hear about others’ experiences. Thank you for sharing. Have a great, hopefully much healthier week ahead.β˜€οΈπŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much. Yes I am on the mend and will go for a check up next week again. I am working on some positive affirmations for my health as well.
I really enjoyed Na No Wri Mo .. they give you lots of opportunities to listen to interviews on podcasts and essays by authors that give amazing tips and encouragement, there is also an opportunity to join groups (I didn’t do that) I can imagine some people would really enjoy that. You can sign up anytime, there are also other opportunities in the year when they do things but I haven’t experienced them.
You have a great week too πŸ™πŸ’

  2. What a great experience. Your clear direction of what you will do next must be motivation in itself. Sometimes, working against setbacks like our health makes what we do more inspiring. Thank you that the way you see things encourages me. A big hug and well done!!!

National November Writing Month is amazing.
I have completed the poetry writing month for three years in a row now. That comes every April. Known as NaPoWriMo. It’s just as invigorating.
    Keep going. Happy December.
