We have snow
On the hills
Opposite us.
Just a dusting.
Like icing sugar
Sprinkled on a cake.
The river flows
Salmon pink
under the sun rise
And dogs play
In the park below.
No wonder D
Jumped back into bed
Feeling like an icicle
As he cuddled close to me.
Now the earth prepares
To sleep under
Blankets of snow
I find myself
Wanting to hibernate
As well.
But this afternoon
I'll visit a warm home
Tucked right in those hills
As I spend time with my
Mentor.
Slowing down, matching winter
Living close to the earth
All part of my practice
While I nurture the seed of truth
Tucked deep inside my heart.
Have a lovely day, wherever you are.
Morag Noffke
Beautifully worded. Made me want to get back in bed! Hugs!

It’s amazing how you can make a cold winter’s day sound like a place I wouldn’t mind being right now (even though I’m a summer girl 😉).

Agggg I just lost a message to you. So nice to hear from you. And thank you for the lovely message. You could go to the Cedarburg or Rugtersveld in the winter and enjoy a nice fire…and go for a walk in the frost or snow and hear your footsteps go crunch. Then rush back and get all nice and warm in front of the fire with some boonjie sop en brood… Or cocoa 😂 I am remembering the winter holidays we had in the Cedarburg. 👋👋💜

You’re right Morag … there are few things as nice as curling up in front of the fire in winter. Boontjie sop en brood (and cocoa) – now, you’re talking!!

😂😂. … I hear you are having a sweltering spring. Hope you enjoy the summer. At least you are close to the beach, aren’t you?

Yes, it feels like we are already in the middle of summer. We are now staying on a farm outside Durbanville, so the sea (and beach) is not that far. And with Langebaan just around the corner, a weekend by the sea is easy-peasy 😉.

Lovely poem! I, too, have been feeling the urge to hibernate. May we all “nurture the seed of truth/Tucked deep inside (our hearts).”
