Tailored to your palette

Prompt: What is your favorite restaurant?

Here’s a fun thought: My favourite restaurant is still in the future. I’m working on the idea.

It’s run by a quirky young man who has enough sass to believe it will work. His impish eyes are a glow with warmth and humour and he laughs with gusto.

The reason it would work relies on each guests’ imagination. Although he is an artisan chef of note and does this with finesse and flair he demands that you either come up with new ideas for him to cook or otherwise he’ll make you guess every ingredient in the current dish.

It would have eclectic fusion decor and world music playing softly in the background. By the end of the evening there would be enthusiastic dancing and open mic sessions for up and coming musicians and singers.

The chef has small posies of flowers prepared for the table that can be taken home. With food, flowers , dance and singing it’s a place for romance and joyful celebrations. It is not your usual restaurant which might be impersonal, no, it is a community effort that brings people of all nationalities together. It’s a place of abundance and blessings. It has heart and soul.

I will let you know when it opens.

Note about the chef:

this character is based on a blend of my father who was a ship’s captain. He travelled around the world and sampled dishes far and wide then he taught my mother to cook with the same creativity. He was also a very generous man. The other person this chef is based on is my son-in-law who has the makings of a great chef although his career choice is in a very different field.

Creativity and a healthy sense of humour is something they both have in common. For me cooking with different spices and herbs is very much like blending colours for one’s painting. Each dish and each painting demands it’s own special blend.

What is your favorite restaurant? Real or imagined.

Take care,

  1. Love this, Morag!

I have two. There’s a local Japanese restaurant my better half and I have been going to for years. Never had a bad meal and the sashimi is always wonderful.

For imaginary, I’d want to eat at The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (from Douglas Adams’ comedic sci-fi novel of the same name). Exotic food and drink, exotic patrons, and it sits at the edge of the end of the universe, so the light show is spectacular!
