A Puppy in Our Extended Family

This is a short update to explain my absence in the last two weeks.

We are all well and very happy especially as my daughter, Ellie, and son-in-law acquired a puppy in January. It was seven and a half weeks old when it arrived. It’s like having a human baby in the home: it comes with lots of disruptions, feeding and potty training. And we have to be consistent in our training for good results. I see it as an investment. Once one has the first dog trained well one can always bring another young dog into the family and it usually learns how to behave from the first dog. And that’s why one needs to put the effort into train the first one properly.

When Ellie’s husband had to travel to South Africa halfway through January Derek and I stepped in as moral support and a couple of extra hands. So yes, we stayed with Ellie for four days but most of the time we have been back and forth, when needed. Yesterday our second daughter, S, came up from London to stay for four days as well. While Ellie picked her up from the station we puppy-sat, seeing that she was well looked after.

She has been an exciting and time consuming new arrival.

    • Thank you, we will share more about her in future. Since it’s Ellie’s dog and she also has a blog I don’t want to share too much. I’m sure she’ll post once her husband gets back. I can’t wait for her to be old enough to go for walks. She’s still waiting for her second parvovirus vaccine.
