It feels a bit like July went by in a blur while I lived in the present moment.
July
went by
In a blur.
Heat wave
Stonehaven Folk Festival
Pet sitting
Heat wave
Cat sitting
Community group activity
Art and historical research
I have had
A satisfying
Abundant
Month
As the Stonehaven folk festival still lingered on our lips and mind I worked on my mandala which I will share soon.
Harvesting strawberries and rhubarb have come to an end but I am still harvesting courgettes and broad beans, and one tomato. I certainly wouldn’t keep us alive on my produce alone but every serving I bring in gives me a thrill because it means one less plastic bag or plastic carton landing up in landfill.
We have a wedding in our community soon and so we have been cleaning up the church gardens and inside too. Working together as a team has been a lovely way to get to know others and doing things together really builds the community spirit. This is not something I have ever experienced in South Africa and I feel honoured to be part of this community.
I’m enjoying living in the present moment.
Lastly my inguinale hernia surgery has been moved to the 19th August instead of tomorrow. It’s a quick keyhole procedure lasting 45 minutes. I have mixed reports of recovery time but I expect to continue with my art, writing and research.
I am excited to see what August holds for us as we step into this new month.
May you experience peace and light in your coming week.

Hello Morag, you are certainly settling in well in Scotland. Hoping your surgery date is confirmed and that the surgery goes well. π€ππββοΈ

What a perfect, poetic summary of July… Hurrah for the folk festival inspiring a mandala! And hurrah for your generous gardens. You make a great point β “every serving I bring in gives me a thrill because it means one less plastic bag or plastic carton landing up in landfill.” There are so many good reasons to tend a garden, and that is a terrific one. I hope your surgery goes well and is not postponed yet again. Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

Best wishes on your surgery, Morag. I hope you find relief.
Your poem is a perfect encapsulation of your journey last month! It really captures the quick passage of time as well as the things you’ve accomplished.
I hope you’ve had a creative weekend, my friend. π

Thank you Richard, I hope so too. I appreciate your observation of my poem too. I’m enjoying reflecting back each month. It’s the first year that I have included a reflection of the month. It’s been quite helpful.
It’s been a fantastic creative weekend πI have been writing, knitting, and grappling with my mandala. It’s ready now. I’m now putting some thoughts into words. I hope you have had a creative weekend too ποΈπ¨π«

Morag, keep me posted on your surgery, please. Sounds like it’s not too big of an ordeal. Ask them if they are using some kind of material to reinforce the site of your hernia internally. It will help it to stay closed better. They probably already thought of that. Also if your cough is what has caused the problem, see if they will give you some kind n of anti coughing med if it will help. Love you, my sweet friend. Praying for a successful surgery for you.

It’s great living off the veggies and fruits from your own garden (even if the harvest isnβt that big π) β besides the impact on nature, itβs also just the fact that youβre picking something you planted and cared for with your own hands. Itβs also nice to read how involved you are in your community. That’s something I often experience in Langebaan (and now also here on the farm). Hmm, your painting of the strawberries makes me long for our summer.

Thank you, yes you are quite right, it’s a treat eating what one has planted. I’m going to have to catch up on your news. Where is your farm? I didn’t know about that. πππ

After three years in East London, my husband’s employers sent him back to Cape Town to manage new contracts here – yeah! We are now renting a house on a working farm outside Durbanville. It’s wonderful to stay so close to the city, but not in the middle of all the crazy rush … here on the farm, we sometimes forget that we’re only a few kilometers from Cape Town π.
