Happy Birthday Mom, 20 10 2022

Dear Mom,

I miss you since you died, 3 years ago – I missed you even before you died, for several years when you went deaf and we could no longer have our conversations. Your being deaf was a barrier to our wonderful conversations about life. I miss our connection through these conversations. We enjoyed pottering through life – like strolling around a labyrinth of flowers, gardens, beaches, nature. We had such fond times in creativity: sewing, knitting and art; of sitting next to the fire and training dogs; and of wondering about God.

I miss your wisdom with our cups of tea. Although I miss our conversations you are inside me now, like a homing device. I feel you. Thank you for guidance, patience, conviction and example of strength. I am grateful that you walked beside me as a child through the darkness and the light. You were not perfect and neither was I; I am grateful that we could accept each other and develop a deep mutual respect. Thank you for reaching out the initial olive branch.

Life moves on and from my experience we cannot recreate the special moments that we once enjoyed, even if we tried. We can only seize the moment, treasure it and make the most of the special times we have with each other as they roll out before us. And when our loved ones are gone we can be grateful for what we’ve been given and appreciate their unique fragrance that lingers in our lives.

I am thinking of all our mothers, the Collective Mother

  9. Beautifully stated. I know that you loved each other very much. I was thinking of my mother today. Our relationship was still there for a while afterwards. I lived 5 hours away from her. My brother took good care of her and I saw her when I could. I loved her very much.
