Growing old is quite a thing
You can feel sad when you look at the losses
Even feel mad at the process
You can feel scared about the future
Even hopeless about the overture
It's OK to embrace the future
by mourning the past
It's OK to celebrate your past wins
as you let go of what's left behind.
In order to accept where we are
We must celebrate the successes and the failures,
And mourn our fading strength and capabilities...
In order to go on and embrace the future
We must look Future straight in the eyes
And find out how we are to live
Our best lives going forward
Count your strengths
Name them one by one;
Acknowledge your gains
There are sure to be some.
You are sure to be wiser
Take yourself less seriously
Have more confidence and experience
Know yourself better
Know that you have not arrived
As it's not the destination that counts
As much as how we live day to day
Know that there's always room for growth
Never give up your hope
Never let go of purpose
Never forsake your community
Never give up on yourself
Stay active
Keep eating your vegetables
Be curious
Keep moving your body naturally
Love the aged
Choose your tribe
Forgive and love
Make time each day
For napping, chatting, dancing, laughter,
Gratefulness, reminisce, prayer,
And breath.
I imagine you will have a good life
And if your ship is not headed
In the direction you ultimately want
Get cracking
And do something to change it.
Keep a slow steady turning circle
And you will get there safely.

Animals live in communities, we could learn from them.
Have a good weekend.
Thank you, Morag, for the wisdom of your beautiful poem, and interesting photos!

This is beautiful! I think, for most of us, growing older is a challenge, and one that carries with it a degree of sadness. But I love what you have written here. It’s so valuable to stop and ask ourselves what our best future life could be, and then move towards that.
