Firefly-glimmers in the dark
Snatching the light and shimmers.
Little specks of hope flickering
about catching my attention.
Quick before they flutter out of reach.
Life is not all fizz and pop;
the hardships make us stop,
in our tracks.
Sad. Mad. It's hard to be glad.
Sad. Scared. It's hard to be glad.
It's hard to see the joy
when life feels like it's been done to us.
But to carry on with dignity,
to champion our destiny
we must see the shimmers
and the glimmers.
We lift up our heads,
Grab hold of the glimmers,
they are not ghosts.
Grab hold and smile.
Let the glimmers once again
ignite your hopes
and your joys.
This is written for the writing club I belong to in a ‘long distance’ fashion. They discussed glimmers Vs triggers: things that bring us little glimpses of hope versus things that trigger anger.
We all need to quieten the triggers and fan the glimmers.
I have had a challenging week. That’s the reality. Sometimes I just don’t cope with life the way I would hope to. I am a sensitive reed that vibrates in the wind.
That’s my challenge. When I do stop I can see the glimmers of hope. It’s like smelling a rose, walking past a coffee shop or freshly baked bread. It’s the timeous words spoken by a friend or a blog post reminding me of my faith. It’s the loving arms of my spouse, his patient words and his understanding. It’s the peace of my Creator speaking in my heart again.
We are truly blessed, if only we looked for the glimmers we would see it for ourselves more often.
Take heart. See the glimmers.

Beautiful!! Such a lovely way of describing life as it fluctuates back and forth between joys and fears and stressful times.

Thank you for visiting and reading my poem. I am happy you enjoyed it and felt it. Sometimes we hang on regardless and then in the most unsuspecting place we see the glimmers of hope. Like God saying ‘i see you ‘

“We all need to quieten the triggers and fan the glimmers.” Very well said! I fully resonate with you. Ups and downs are always there in the life, but a glimmer of hope gives a sign of optimism or possibility in a difficult or uncertain situation. Thank you for this wonderful post🙏💐
