Dear Mr D. Washer Mc Hine
My dear old man
I will miss you dearly.
You were such a support
To me in the last four years
When we didn’t know much
About anything here
In Scotland.
Although you were short
And small, Most people
Thought you should have
Been bigger
You were there for me
Day in and day out.
Even in the middle of the night
I would come to you
When I couldn’t sleep
And we would commune
In those long dark nights.
We have had our scrapes
And bruises, both of us
But there’s been no
Hard feelings.
It is sad to see you
Fading out; I understand
You have your physical issues
No matter what they say
One’s time does draw to a close.
You have done your job
For many years,
For two other families
Before us.
Now you don’t drain well,
You stop when you shouldn't
And you spill water on the floor.
It seems like you are going
To the e-waste recycling centre
And sadly I doubt that you
Can be rehabilitated.
I appreciate every dish
Pot and pan you have washed.
Excellent service,
Mr dishwasher machine
You will be remembered
It's tragic when you
Have to let a good one go.
Jokes aside, I love the appliances that work well in my home and they are hard to replace without good references.
Enjoy your day.

LOL! I thought at first you were talking about a real man, then it got stranger and I thought maybe you were talking about a pet. What a surprise to find out you were talking about a dishwasher! I laughed!! You were quite clever to come up with that one!!

You had me going with this poem, Morag…I was sure it was someone who helped to acclimate to your move, but then I realized it was an appliance! 🤣
We had to say goodbye to our 25 year old refrigerator during COVID. It was a sad day. Not that the new one isn’t fine, but you never forget those sturdy ones.

I’m glad you found it humorous 🤣 we love the appliance until the next one comes along. 😉

What a lovely, humorous poem (once I’ve realised it’s about a dishwasher and not a real person 😁). We all have our favourite appliances, right? The ones that have stood by us through thick and thin over the years … I’ll miss my old kettle the day it reaches its end 😉.

Hurrah for honoring the great and reliable appliances in our lives! Our stove is 60+ years old and still going strong.

It was such a different time with very different business models (ie: “let’s make products which will serve our customers for many, many years” rather than “let’s make poor quality, disposable products which our customers will need to replace regularly.”) Now that I think about it, our vacuum cleaner is at least 30 years old and still going strong…

Yes I agree, one used to be able to rely on durability.
