Sunday Session on the Patio

Sitting on my patio
With Views
If warm blues
and lazy greens
The birds chatter,
Tweet and whirr,
Piep piep and warble…

Butterflies flutter.

I listen intently
All is still
Except the birds,
Sounds holographic
To me.

We have made a new compost bin this weekend
And I thought about the
Unwanted things that come
From inside
The kitchen
The fridge
And the vegetable basket.
I thought with fondness
That I learnt something
From my thrifty mother…
She passed the knowledge
Onto me
Sprouting onions, leeks
and tired looking beets
Forgotten
In the back of the fridge
And Celery hearts
Can all be revived
If you plant them in soil
And nurture them.
In 2020 with COVID
Lockdown
I did this a lot
On my patio
In pots,
it extended the life
Of these plants.
It’s worth a try.
Nothing to lose:
Pure joy
When one sees
Life coming from
‘nothing’.

A metaphor
Of course
Coming right your way….
What in my life
Or yours
Yearns to sprout?
What is presumed
Lifeless
That longs to grow?

Maybe it’s been hiding
‘in the back of the cupboard ‘
Maybe it’s been tossed aside
As a reject
But maybe with a little
Tender loving care
Something good
Will be resurrected.
What joy?!

What sprouts in my life?
Or in yours?
Sometimes it just takes
‘sitting on your patio’
And listening
Or looking
As the birds chatter
And butterflies flutter
And the warmth
And laziness
Fosters the sprouting
Of Life.

I hope your weekend was rejuvenating.

Blessings and Light in your lovely week

  1. I love the stream-of-consciousness feel of your poem, Morag. It reminds me of my own experience sitting on the patio under a blue sky, the birdsong, the occasional squirrel scurrying in the branches.

I agree, it’s rewarding to find a sorry, wilted little veggie and bring it back from the edge.

    Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend! πŸ„

  2. You paint a lovely image of your morning garden. We’ve hit the mid summer heat waves here, along with drifting wildfire smoke. It’s hard to hear the bird’s twittering over the rattling of the neighbor’s tired AC. But you’ve reminded me that I’d like to try planting some garlic cloves in my garden.

    • Thank you, I am sorry to hear of your mid summer plight. I know what it is like to have wildfire smoke choking the air. When we lived in Cape Town, South Africa it happened every year. I do hope your garlic cloves are successful πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ thank you for stopping by.
